ICC World Cup 2011: Australia should have done better

Come on, Australia...you should have easily won this match. Target of 215 was never competitive in the Indian condition and I am truly amazed how Australia gave up after decent start of their inning. Aussies looked strong at the score of 118/2, but the scenario suddenly changed few overs later, when Australian batting struggled at 148/6. The battle finally ended with Australia shameful performance gave India an easy win by 38 runs.

Australian look to be back into winning track after demolishing the Ashes winner England 6-1 in the recent ODI series, and are aiming to lift the glory cup for the consecutive 4th times. Playing in the subcontinent will be completely different experience than back home and their batsmen will be tested against the quality spinners. And that's the weak point, where Aussies batsmen were exposed in today's practice match. They could not capitalize the excellent start against the fast bowlers and stumbled against the spinners. Especially they failed to judge the googly of leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who was a surprise inclusion in the world cup squad. 4 wickets by Chawla was enough to swap away the strong mid-order or Australian team. The remaining damage was done by Harbhajan, who took 3 wickets.

Australia's weakness to the spin bowling can be exploited by other teams. So, Australia should look back into their preparation schedule again, do lots of home work in playing doosra and googly...and don't forget the carrom ball. Mantra to be successful: Learn from your mistake, overcome your weaknesses and strengthen your abilities. And the world cup is yours.

By the way, I am not the fan of Australian team, and I don't mean to take the credit away from Indians. India deserved the victory for keeping the fighting spirit high.
