IPL 2011 updates: The position of IPL teams in the point table

This year IPL is far better and more exciting than the earlier versions; the reason for that is its unpredictable results. Except Mumbai Indians, no other teams could justify to the reputation they earned from previous competitions. Mumbai Indians are looking better than last year, and we know that they managed to play in the final then. I won't be surprised if they win the title this time. Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers are not able to build a winning combination despite having some great T20 players and are currently wagging as the tail in the table. The new entrants Kochi and Pune are playing considerably well and have bravely challenged the top teams in many occasions. Kochi's victory against mighty Mumbai came as a power supplement for young Kochi, who later managed to win two more matches. Pune might have only 4 points from 2 wins, but they are on advantage of playing only 5 matches. On the contrary, Bangalore and Rajasthan, currently at 2nd and 3rd position with 7 points each, might move down the table if they couldn't maintain their win-loss ratio. They have already played 7 matches.

But, there is still no need for any team to panic so early. IPL 2011 has just reached to its half show, and another half is yet to be played. The point table can go upside down when the round robin stage comes to an end. Each team has yet to play another 7-8 matches, and they can improve their chance to qualify to the next round by winning more matches.

* The two finalists and the loser of second qualifier will appear in the next edition of Champions League.

This year knock-out is build in very interesting format. There will be two qualifier matches:
  • Qualifer 1: 1st place Vs 2nd place
  • Qualifer 2: 3rd place Vs 4th place

As the winner of Qualifer 1 will qualify directly for the final, the winner of Qualifer 2 should compete with the loser of Qualifer 1 at Eliminator stage. The winner of the Eliminator stage will play in the final, while the loser will join them in the Champions League. There is no reward for the loser of Qualifier 2.
